Ubisoft has officially launched the much-anticipated Claws of Awaji expansion for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, available now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This major story DLC takes players to the mysterious and treacherous island of Awaji, offering nearly 10 hours of fresh gameplay. Players who pre-ordered Assassin’s Creed Shadows can download the expansion for free, while others can purchase it as a standalone add-on.
Before setting foot on Awaji Island, players must complete the main story arcs of both Naoe and Yasuke. The DLC becomes accessible after finishing the quest “Out of the Shadows,” which unlocks once the personal storylines of Yasuke, Naoe, and Junjiro are complete. The adventure begins when you track down Hanzo’s contact at your Hideout in Settsu, leading you to the remote island.

What’s in the new expansion?
Ubisoft describes Awaji as an entirely separate map, featuring a diverse range of biomes including beaches, swamps, and dense jungles. However, this picturesque setting is fraught with danger. The island is under the control of a ruthless faction, filled with ambush points and lethal traps. Players must stay vigilant, as enemies often disguise themselves as ordinary citizens, leading to surprise attacks.
One of the highlights of the expansion is the introduction of a brand-new weapon for Naoe — the Bo staff. This versatile weapon allows players to chain together quick attacks and perform impressive combos, even throwing one enemy into another. Several legendary versions of the Bo- staff are hidden throughout Awaji, rewarding exploration.

The DLC also adds new armour and gear with unique abilities, giving players more customization options. To get the most out of the expansion, Ubisoft recommends reaching at least level 60, as the DLC supports the game’s new level cap of 80 introduced in New Game Plus mode.
