Electronic Arts has made a major comeback with the release of Battlefield 6, selling over 7 million copies within its first three days on the market — the highest launch sales in the franchise’s history. Released on October 10, the game has received largely favorable reviews, marking a sharp turn around for a series that had struggled in recent years.
The previous entries — Battlefield V (2018) and Battlefield 2042 (2021) — failed to meet both critical and commercial expectations, prompting public acknowledgments of those missteps from EA CEO Andrew Wilson.

Zampella Leads Battlefield 6 Reboot
To steer the franchise back on course, EA turned to industry veteran Vince Zampella, co-creator of Call of Duty and head of Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind Apex Legends. Zampella was tasked with overseeing development of Battlefield 6, leading a coordinated effort across four different EA studios.
The game’s record-breaking release also comes on the heels of EA’s recent announcement to go private in a massive buyout deal valued at $55 billion. The acquisition, led by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners (run by Jared Kushner), is expected to close in 2026 and could become the largest leveraged buyout in corporate history.
