Fans of the Digimon franchise can finally get an early taste of Digimon Story: Time Stranger as Bandai Namco has released a playable demo across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The highly anticipated turn-based RPG officially launches on October 2, but players can now explore the prologue and carry over their progress into the full game.
The demo covers the opening chapter of the story, giving players a chance to meet key characters and familiarize themselves with the revamped combat system. Once the prologue is completed, players can unlock a special preview mission set later in the game to explore parts of Iliad, one of the main areas in Time Stranger. However, progress made in this additional section will not transfer to the full release.
What to Expect in the Time Stranger Demo: Story, Combat, and More
Producer Ryosuke Hara revealed that the development team has focused heavily on refining the series’ battle mechanics, aiming for a more balanced and strategic experience. Early impressions from critics, including a three-hour hands-on preview by gaming journalist Jess Reyes, suggest that Time Stranger may offer the most polished combat system in the franchise to date.
Importantly, the game is designed to be accessible even to newcomers who have never played the previous entry, Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, or watched the anime series. The narrative follows a secret agent investigating a mysterious explosion that has ties to the digital world. Fans of monster-raising gameplay will have plenty to look forward to, with more than 450 Digimon available to collect, train, and battle.
Preorders for Digimon Story: Time Stranger are live, with bonuses including Black Agumon, Black Gabumon, and exclusive costumes. A Digital Deluxe Edition is also available, featuring the season pass and a Cyber Sleuth-themed costume set.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger launches globally on October 2 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
