In a surprise move, Descenders Next, the new extreme sports game from developer RageSquid and publisher No More Robots, launched today, July 21, directly on Xbox Game Pass. Originally slated for an April release, the game was quietly delayed, only to now shadow-drop on both Xbox and Steam for $30.
Following up on the success of the original Descenders, which attracted over 35 million players, Descenders Next expands beyond biking into new territory. The launch version features both snowboarding and mountainboarding, with plans to add more extreme sports later.
According to No More Robots, the vision is clear: to become “the only extreme sports game you’ll ever need,” gradually adding fresh adrenaline-pumping content over time.

What’s new in Descenders Next?
The game includes online multiplayer, massive biomes to explore, and a progression system that unlocks new content as you play. Players can ride solo or team up with friends to race downhill, land tricks, or take part in scavenger hunts for hidden rewards. The parks in Descenders Next aren’t just for speed—they’re playgrounds built for creative stunts, exploration, and fun.
Descenders Next is now available on Xbox and PC via Steam, and included in Xbox Game Pass. There’s no official word yet on when—or if—it will come to PlayStation or Nintendo Switch.

Gaming Community already buzzing with early clips
Within hours of the surprise launch, players began sharing clips on social media of high-speed descents, gravity-defying tricks, and massive multiplayer rides. TikTok and X (formerly Twitter) are already filling up with gameplay montages tagged under #DescendersNext and #GamePassDrop.
This marks another major win for Microsoft’s Game Pass strategy, continuing a trend of surprise day-one releases that drive instant hype. With Descenders Next joining the July lineup, it’s yet another reason why Xbox Game Pass is becoming a go-to hub for extreme sports and indie gems.
Gamers have long pointed out a lack of fresh, high-quality extreme sports titles. With franchises like SSX, Skate, and Tony Hawk mostly inactive, Descenders Next steps in to fill that vacuum. Its mix of open-world exploration and freestyle gameplay puts it in a unique lane, drawing comparisons to Riders Republic but with a sharper indie edge.
Descenders Next: Built for streamers and YouTubers
The game’s unpredictable terrain, multiplayer chaos, and high skill ceiling make it perfect for content creators. Expect Twitch streams and YouTube trick compilations to spike over the next few days as the community dives in.
What’s coming next?
While snowboarding and mountainboarding headline the launch, No More Robots has hinted that other sports—like BMX street, parkour, wingsuit flying, and possibly even surfing—may be in the pipeline. Players are already speculating in forums and Discord about what’s coming next.
