Marvel Rivals may soon arrive on PlayStation 4, with speculation pointing to a possible release around the launch of Season 4 in mid-September. The rumor began after a report claimed that new files linked to the game had appeared on Sony’s servers. However, developer NetEase Games has yet to officially confirm any plans for a PS4 version.
Since its debut in December 2024, the team-based shooter has built a dedicated community. NetEase previously acknowledged that many fans wanted the game on additional platforms, including Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2. However, as of July 2025, the studio noted it had not yet received a development kit from Nintendo, meaning any potential Switch 2 port would still be months away even if approval came through.
Rumors Point to PS4 Port in September
While talks about future platforms continue, new speculation suggests that Marvel Rivals could make the jump backward to the PlayStation 4. A well-known PlayStation tracking account reported that a file labeled “Marvel Rivals version 01.01” was uploaded to Sony’s servers, tied to the start of Season 4 on September 12. The update referenced new seasonal content, while separate leaks hinted at Deadpool possibly joining the roster, fueled by recently uncovered voice lines.
No Official Word Yet from NetEase
For now, NetEase has not confirmed a PS4 release, meaning the claims remain unverified. Still, with over 117 million PS4 units sold worldwide, such a move could help address the game’s shrinking player base—Steam stats show an 86% drop in active users since its January peak. Some fans have raised concerns about how the game, built on Unreal Engine 5, might run on last-gen hardware, particularly given the PS4’s limitations and overheating risks.
Whether these rumors prove true should become clearer once Season 4 arrives later this month.
