KRAFTON India has reportedly decided to postpone its much-anticipated BGMI Franchise League, shelving the IPL-style format it had been exploring since June. As per a report of Inside Sports, the company cited a “not fully supportive” environment for the scale and impact originally envisioned, though it emphasized that its commitment to Indian esports remains strong.
The proposed franchise league was intended to offer a stable, long-term structure for teams and players, moving away from the traditional open tournament model. The plan had generated considerable interest within the community, but KRAFTON says it will revisit the concept only when market conditions are more favorable.
“After careful consideration, we have decided not to move forward with the BGMI Franchise League at this time,” KRAFTON India said in a statement. “While the idea received strong interest, the current environment does not fully support the scale and impact we had envisioned. Our commitment to Indian esports remains unwavering, and we will continue to focus on initiatives that foster talent, engage the community, and contribute meaningfully to the ecosystem. The franchise model remains part of our long-term vision and may be revisited as the landscape evolves.”
For now, the BGMI competitive scene will continue to revolve around flagship events like the BGMI India Series (BGIS) and BGMI Pro Series (BMPS). KRAFTON says it will direct its efforts toward programs that nurture players and deepen community engagement while keeping the door open for a franchise-based format in the future.
