Helldivers 2 is officially landing on Xbox Series X|S on August 26, and fans might be in for a surprise — a potential Halo 3: ODST crossover. A new trailer, as reported by Gamespot, features striking similarities to the iconic New Mombasa setting from ODST, complete with a Helljumper drop-pod sequence and music from P.O.D.
While Arrowhead Game Studios hasn’t confirmed the crossover outright, the hints align perfectly with the developer’s earlier stance on collaborations. Shortly after Helldivers 2’s original release, Arrowhead said they were open to crossovers, but only ones that “make sense” and “add something” meaningful to the game.
“Crossovers have to make sense. We don’t want to be Kingdom Hearts or Fortnite. If we do them, we want them to add something — feel good, fun, a memory — but still fit in,” the studio noted.
Given the thematic parallels between Halo 3: ODST and Helldivers 2 — both centered on elite human soldiers, powerful weaponry, and dramatic orbital drops — the integration could be seamless. If the crossover goes ahead, players might see ODST-inspired weapons, gear, and cosmetics incorporated into the Helldivers universe without breaking its gritty, militaristic tone.
Halo 3: ODST remains one of the most beloved entries in the Halo franchise, serving as Bungie’s penultimate Halo game before moving on to develop Destiny. Its atmospheric storytelling and cult status make it a prime candidate for this kind of collaboration. With Sony giving the green light for the Xbox release, players on Series X|S can soon join the fight to spread “Managed Democracy” across the galaxy — possibly alongside some very familiar Halo-inspired firepower.
