Battle royale pioneer PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) will no longer be playable on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One starting November 13, 2025, as developer PUBG Studios shifts focus entirely to current-generation hardware.
The studio announced that the game will transition to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, bringing enhanced graphics, more stable frame rates, and memory optimizations aimed at reducing crashes. According to PUBG Studios, the move is intended to “align PUBG Console with current-gen consoles” and deliver a smoother gameplay experience for the future.
Key Details of the Transition:
End of service: November 13, 2025, for PS4 and Xbox One
Availability: From that date, PUBG will only be playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
Account continuity: All player data and purchased items will carry over automatically
Platform specifics:
PlayStation players must download the PS5 version from the PlayStation Store after the transition
Xbox players will receive the upgraded version automatically via Smart Delivery
Performance on Current-Gen Consoles Post-Transition:
Xbox Series S: 1080p/1440p, 60fps/30fps
Xbox Series X: 2160p, 60fps
PS5: 1440p, 60fps
PS5 Pro: 2160p, 60fps
The PS4 and Xbox One versions will be removed from their respective digital stores and will no longer be playable after the deadline. Players upgrading to current-gen consoles will be able to continue their progress without any manual transfers.
PUBG’s decision reflects a growing trend among multiplayer titles, as developers move to take advantage of newer hardware capabilities, potentially leaving last-gen consoles behind for more advanced gameplay experiences.
