A brand-new video game based on John Carpenter’s 1978 horror classic Halloween is in the works, with a release planned for 2026. Titled Halloween: The Game, it is being developed in Unreal Engine 5 and brings the terrifying presence of Michael Myers into a modern, interactive experience.
The game is designed as an asymmetrical horror title where one player becomes Michael Myers while others play as residents of Haddonfield trying to survive the night he comes home. IllFonic, the studio leading development, is no stranger to the genre, having previously created Predator: Hunting Grounds and the cult-favorite Friday the 13th game.
Unlike some previous movie-to-game adaptations that focused only on online play, Halloween: The Game promises more variety. Alongside multiplayer, it will feature a single-player campaign, AI-controlled enemies, multiple environments to explore, and a soundtrack that draws inspiration from Carpenter’s chilling original score. This makes the game accessible to fans who prefer solo play as well as those looking for a social, multiplayer experience.

Adding to its authenticity, John Carpenter himself has joined as an executive producer. His involvement aims to ensure the project stays true to the mood and essence of the original film. IllFonic’s CEO Charles Brungardt emphasized the collaboration, stating that working with rights holders Compass International Pictures and Further Front has provided valuable guidance in shaping a faithful adaptation of Michael Myers’ world.
The announcement came with an official trailer, giving players a first look at the atmosphere and gameplay. Set for launch on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC in 2026, Halloween: The Game seeks to combine the terror of the 1978 classic with modern interactive storytelling, potentially becoming one of the most faithful horror movie adaptations to date.
