Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the highly anticipated remake of the 2004 PlayStation 2 classic, will release worldwide on August 28, 2025, exclusively for PlayStation 5. Developed by Konami, the game aims to bring modern visuals, updated mechanics, and new multiplayer content while staying true to the original’s story and atmosphere.
Staying true to the original game
Developers explained during a Tokyo press event that the remake was designed to respect the original experience. Series producer Noriaki Okamura said the team wanted to modernize the graphics and gameplay while preserving the same emotions and intensity that players felt two decades ago.
Okamura admitted that his initial plan of simply upgrading character models did not work. Creative producer Yuji Korekado explained that the team rebuilt animations and movement systems to make stealth gameplay more natural, while ensuring the game felt as close as possible to the PS2 classic.
A jungle built for immersion
Korekado said one of the most detailed areas of development was the jungle environment. Every element, from grass to moss, was recreated to look realistic from all angles. The remake uses new animation systems that highlight these details when players crouch, crawl, or sneak across the terrain.
The audio system has also been reworked. Players will notice how sound behaves differently in caves, long corridors, or near walls. According to the team, these improvements make stealth more strategic, as players can detect enemies and animals based on how sound travels in different spaces.

New gameplay modes for fans
The remake adds Fox Hunt, a new online multiplayer mode inspired by Metal Gear’s stealth mechanics. Yu Sahara, the mode’s director, described it as a hide-and-seek experience designed to highlight sneaking and survival. Players can unlock cosmetic rewards such as new camouflage patterns by playing multiple matches.
Another returning fan-favorite is Snake vs Monkey mode, where players capture Pipo Monkeys. Planner Taiga Ishigami revealed that the team added new animations, sound effects, and even an Astro Bot collaboration, letting players capture special bots for extra rewards.
A remake with emotional weight
Okamura reflected on the emotional journey of making the remake. He recalled crying when playing the original Metal Gear Solid 3 and said the new project was built to recapture that same emotional depth. “This is the game I always dreamed of making,” he said.
