Konami has lifted the curtain on a new initiative titled Project Wai Wai World Craft, described as a “social game creation network” that allows players to design and share their own games. While the name might sound unfamiliar to younger audiences, longtime fans may recall Wai Wai World as one of Konami’s more experimental titles when it debuted decades ago.
The project was unveiled following Konami’s showcase at the 2025 Tokyo Game Show, where the company teased several secret developments. Among the surprises, the return of Wai Wai World stood out, reviving a franchise that had been largely dormant for years.
From the details revealed so far, Wai Wai World Craft seems poised to act as a Japanese counterpart to Roblox. The platform will allow users to construct their own games by tweaking ready-made assets or by using an AI assistant called MagicPod to help generate new content. Staying true to its roots, Konami has confirmed that the project will feature characters pulled from its most iconic franchises. The game will launch as a free-to-play experience on Steam, iOS, and Android, supported by optional in-game purchases. However, a release date has yet to be shared.

The announcement trailer highlighted various tools for customization, including options to edit maps, adjust gameplay rules, and create co-op experiences for up to eight players. A dedicated social hub will let users showcase their creations to the wider community. The interface, with its clean layout and sharing features, has already drawn comparisons to Roblox’s ecosystem.
For context, the original Wai Wai World arrived in 1988 for the Famicom in Japan, where players teamed up with Konami’s stable of heroes in a crossover rescue adventure. Its limited regional release kept it from achieving global recognition, and the new project may follow a similar Japan-first approach, as no English-language announcement has been made.
Still, many fans believe the timing is ideal for Konami to expand overseas. With Roblox currently facing regulatory hurdles and community controversies, some argue that competition could provide players with fresh alternatives and encourage innovation in the market. Whether Konami keeps Wai Wai World Craft exclusive to Japan or expands globally remains one of the key questions surrounding the project.
