Nintendo has officially confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is headed to the upcoming Switch 2 console, with a release date set for January 22, 2026. The announcement came during today’s Nintendo Direct showcase, putting an end to months of speculation about when the critically acclaimed RPG would arrive on Nintendo hardware.
Square Enix revealed that Intergrade will be available in both physical and digital formats, though it remains unclear whether the physical version will ship with a complete game card or rely on a download code.
This marks a major milestone for the Final Fantasy 7 trilogy, which was originally a PlayStation exclusive. Square Enix has recently shifted its strategy toward multiplatform launches, aiming to expand the franchise’s reach and secure long-term growth.
As for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth — the second entry in the trilogy — fans will have to wait longer. No release window was announced for the Switch 2 version, though Square Enix producer Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that the third and final part of the saga is already in development, with an official reveal date internally decided.
Other Expected Games
Beyond the Final Fantasy announcements, Nintendo’s September Direct also highlighted several other major JRPG releases slated for late 2025 and 2026. Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles will arrive on September 30, followed by Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake on October 30, and Octopath Traveler 0 on December 4.
Originally launched for PlayStation 4 in 2020 and later upgraded for PlayStation 5 and PC, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is widely praised for its faithful reimagining of the 1997 classic. Its arrival on Switch 2 is expected to introduce a new wave of players to Cloud, Tifa, and the rest of Avalanche’s crew as they take on Shinra’s Sector 7 reactor — this time on Nintendo’s next-gen hardware.
