In what could be one of the biggest shifts in gaming history, the Halo franchise—long considered the crown jewel of Microsoft’s Xbox ecosystem—may soon make its way to PlayStation. According to a fresh report, the next installment in the iconic shooter series could be released on Sony’s console, ending more than two decades of platform exclusivity.
The claim comes from well-known YouTuber RebsGaming, a content creator with a solid track record of accurate Halo scoops, including correctly predicting Halo Infinite’s multiplayer launch date. Using the data-mining tool Grunt.api, RebsGaming reportedly uncovered evidence of a new Halo title in development with PlayStation compatibility. The findings suggest not one, but two titles being prepared for Sony’s platform—one potentially tied to Certain Affinity’s highly anticipated Halo project and another unannounced game that could be revealed as early as this year.

While Halo Studios (formerly known as 343 Industries) has already confirmed plans to release a new Halo game later in 2025, this new leak hints that Microsoft may be expanding its audience for the franchise. This would align with the company’s recent strategy of bringing major Xbox titles to other platforms. In the past year alone, Microsoft has released games like Sea of Thieves, Pentiment, Grounded, Hi-Fi Rush, Fallout 4, Indiana Jones, and Doom: The Dark Ages on PlayStation.
Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has also signaled openness to broader collaboration in the gaming industry, even publicly praising Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 hardware. Meanwhile, speculation about Sony embracing a more multiplatform approach has been fueled by a job listing for a “Senior Director of Multiplatform and Account Management,” though Sony has not officially confirmed such plans.
