Obsidian Entertainment’s Grounded 2, the sequel to the 2020 survival game, is launching in early access on July 29, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S consoles and Windows PC. The game, announced at the Xbox Games Showcase in June, places players in a scaled-down environment where they must survive in a backyard setting. Grounded 2 will be available via Xbox Game Pass and Steam, with release times varying by region.
The game will be accessible through the Microsoft Store for Xbox Game Pass subscribers and available for purchase on Steam.
There’s no specific launch date for Grounded 2 1.0, but the first game spent a little over two years in early access.
Obsidian Entertainment plans to release updates every four to five months. According to director Chris Parker, these updates should be “longer, meatier updates” than those seen in the original Grounded.
The game’s release times across different regions are: 10 am PT (Los Angeles), 12 pm CT (Chicago), 1 pm ET (New York), 6 pm BST (London), 7 pm CEST (Berlin), 1 am CST, July 30 (Beijing), 2 am KST, July 30 (Seoul), 2 am JST, July 30 (Tokyo), 3 am AEST, July 30 (Sydney), and 5 am NZST, July 30 (Auckland).
Meanwhile, the PC system requirements for Grounded 2 have been released. The minimum requirements include an AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel i5-8400 processor, 16 GB of RAM, and an AMD RX 5700, Nvidia GTX 1070, or Intel Arc A580 graphics card. Recommended specs include an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X or Intel i7-10700K processor and an AMD RX 6800 XT or Nvidia RTX 3080 graphics card. Both minimum and recommended configurations require Windows 10/11 and 40 GB of storage space.
The game is designed to run on older hardware, such as the NVIDIA GTX 1070 and Intel Core i5-8400. While performance may require lower settings and framerates on these older systems, the game will still be playable.
The storage requirement for Grounded 2 is 40 GB, which is larger than the original Grounded’s 8 GB.
To check PC specifications, users can type “dxdiag” in the Windows search bar.
Grounded 2 will feature a larger map, new crafting options, base building features, character builds, ridable “Buggy” mounts, and new bugs.
The original Grounded was a success for Microsoft and Xbox, and also performed well on PlayStation 5.
The game will be available on Xbox and the Xbox PC app with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. It can also be purchased permanently for $29.99 on both platforms and Steam. A $39.99 Founder’s Edition with extra skins and a digital artbook and soundtrack is available, along with a $9.99 Founder’s Pack upgrade.
