Nintendo Switch 2 Update: reveals new $499.99 bundle as Pokémon hype builds after July showcase
Nintendo has announced a new hardware bundle featuring Pokémon Legends: Z-A and the Nintendo Switch 2 console. Priced at $499.99, the bundle is now available for pre-order via the My Nintendo Store and select retailers, with the launch scheduled for October 16, 2025. This announcement follows the Pokémon Presents livestream earlier this July, which outlined upcoming games and media in the franchise.
What does the Nintendo Switch 2 bundle includes?
The bundle includes a standard Nintendo Switch 2 system along with a digital download of Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. Unlike past limited-edition bundles, this one does not feature custom artwork or a themed design on the console. That may actually help fans grab one without battling scalpers or extreme demand. Like the Mario Kart World bundle, it will only be available for a limited time.
Although the game will also be available on the original Nintendo Switch, the Switch 2 version brings upgraded visuals, smoother framerates, and better performance overall.

Where and how to preorder the Pokémon Legends: Z-A bundle
Preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 + Pokémon Legends: Z-A bundle went live on Wednesday, July 23, ahead of the official October 16 launch. The bundle is available through major retailers like Walmart, Amazon, GameStop, and Target, though stock may vary.
The $499.99 bundle includes the newly improved Nintendo Switch 2 console, which features a larger 7.9-inch 1080p LCD screen and updated magnetised Joy-Con 2 controllers. These come with new GameChat and GameShare buttons, plus smoother scrolling functions.
At launch, players can start their journey in Pokémon Legends: Z-A straight out of the box. This is the second title in the Pokémon Legends series after Legends: Arceus, and is set in the Kalos region’s Lumiose City.
Retailers are also listing standalone versions of Pokémon Legends: Z-A:
- Nintendo Switch 2 physical/digital edition: $70
- Digital upgrade pack (for Switch 2 users upgrading from Switch 1): $10
- Nintendo Switch 1 physical edition: $60
So far, demand for the Switch 2 has remained high, with bundles regularly going out of stock at Best Buy, GameStop, Target, and Walmart. Walmart has restocked the bundle twice, while Amazon uses an invite-only system for orders — making it essential for buyers to act quickly once listings appear.

Z-A set in Lumiose City with new day-night gameplay twists
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is set in the familiar Lumiose City, offering players a chance to experience both exploration and intense battles. The game’s world changes with the time of day—daylight reveals wild zones where players encounter alpha Pokémon with glowing red eyes, while nightfall introduces a tournament system called Z-A Royale.
The Z-A Royale mode pits players against increasingly tough opponents, including Corbeau, head of the underground Rust Syndicate.
Pokémon Legends Z-A: New characters, missions, and rogue Mega Evolutions
Several key characters help drive the storyline. Emma, a detective, will offer side quests involving missing Pokémon, while Mable of the Pokémon Research Lab tasks players with completing field studies.
A major twist in the story involves ‘Rogue Mega Evolution,’ a mysterious force that causes wild Pokémon to Mega Evolve aggressively. Players will team up with Team MZ to calm these Pokémon and collect Mega Stones in the process.
One highlight is the reveal of Mega Dragonite, which combines the speed and elegance of Dragonair with Dragonite’s power—a fresh design twist for longtime fans.
Pokémon Champions coming in 2026 across platforms
A new competitive-focused game, Pokémon Champions, is also on the way in 2026. It will be available on Switch, Switch 2, iOS, and Android. The game introduces a system where players can build teams by temporarily recruiting Pokémon using Trial Recruitment or by earning permanent additions through Victory Points.
The game will feature Ranked, Casual, and Private Battles, supporting both single and double battle styles.
Also teased in the July presentation was a stop-motion animated series titled Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu, developed in collaboration with Aardman. It’s expected to debut in 2027.
In addition, a new mobile and Switch puzzle game Pokémon Friends launched today. Created with Wonderfy Inc., the game offers more than 1,200 puzzles and lets players design plush toys and personalise virtual rooms. With support for up to five save slots, it’s aimed at families and group play.
