Sony has announced the launch of a brand-new Icon Blue Special Edition DualSense wireless controller for the PlayStation 5, set to release on October 20, 2025. The new controller, inspired by the signature blue hues that have long defined the PlayStation brand, adds a fresh design element to Sony’s growing collection of themed accessories.
Marking the 30th anniversary of the original PlayStation’s release in the United States, Sony continues its year-long celebration with new merchandise and special edition products. The Icon Blue controller, priced at $84.99 in the U.S. and $109.99 in Canada, will also roll out in Mexico and Chile on October 28.
The controller features a deep blue finish accented by lighter tones, designed to capture the “spark” that PlayStation fans associate with the brand’s glowing startup light. It also includes subtle detailing, such as button symbols embossed in the center and Katakana lettering on the back, which translates to “PlayStation” in Japanese — a nod to the company’s origins.
Leo Cardoso from Sony’s Color, Material, and Finish design team explained that the controller’s look was inspired by “the anticipation and wonder” players feel when powering up their consoles. “From the moment the DualSense lights up, that signature blue glow signals the start of something special,” Cardoso said.
Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the controller retains all the advanced features of the DualSense lineup — including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a built-in microphone — offering both performance and visual flair.
In addition to the new controller, Sony teased a collection of upcoming PlayStation-themed merchandise. These include an Astro Bot Lunch Box, Twisted Metal Meltz figures, a PlayStation baseball jersey, and a mini backpack inspired by Ellie from The Last of Us.
The Icon Blue Special Edition joins other recent themed controllers such as the God of War 20th Anniversary Kratos Edition, the Astro Bot Joyful Limited Edition, and designs based on Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. With its October 20 release, the new controller is set to become a collector’s favorite among PlayStation enthusiasts worldwide.
