The free-to-play sci-fi MMORPG Skyforge, developed by Allods Team in collaboration with Obsidian Entertainment, is officially heading toward a full shutdown. Publisher Innova has confirmed a phased closure, citing declining player interest over the years.
The game’s PC version will be the first to go offline on September 3, 2025, followed by the console editions for PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch on October 29, 2025. All versions have already been delisted from Steam and 4game.com as of August 1, with in-game purchases also disabled—a standard move for live-service titles nearing their end.
While previously downloaded copies will remain playable until their respective shutdown dates, activity has sharply declined. According to SteamDB, Skyforge has averaged just 16 concurrent players in early August, a far cry from its peak. The game hasn’t crossed 100 concurrent Steam players since 2022.
Originally launched for PC in the summer of 2015, Skyforge gradually expanded to other platforms—releasing on PS4 in 2016, Xbox One in late 2017, and finally Nintendo Switch in early 2021. Despite winning an MMORPG of the Year award in its early days (source unspecified), the game struggled to sustain its momentum.
Innova has not provided a specific reason for the decision, though the writing has long been on the wall. Like many live-service titles, Skyforge required consistent investment and player engagement—both of which appear to have waned.
To mark the game’s final chapter, the developers are planning special in-game events leading up to the shutdown. These will allow remaining players to explore different gear and content before the servers go dark. More information on these farewell festivities is expected soon, with PC players likely to gain early access.
Skyforge is one of at least four games operated by EA also shutting down in October 2025, signaling a broader wave of closures in the live-service space.
