Abiotic Factor, a co-op survival game inspired by Half-Life, has exited early access with a 1.0 update and is now available on consoles and PC. The game, first announced in 2022, is also accessible through Game Pass and PlayStation Plus, featuring crossplay. Players can experience this survival game set in a secret underground research facility filled with interdimensional aliens and military forces.
Abiotic Factor shares similarities with Valve’s Half-Life, taking place in a secret underground research facility. The facility is populated with interdimensional aliens and deadly military goons. However, unlike Half-Life, Abiotic Factor is a survival game.
Instead of traditional survival game activities like harvesting trees and rocks, players scrounge for resources such as pencils and paper. Players break open closets and desks for resources. This approach to survival involves crafting armor from plastic binders and garbage cans. Players also set up camp in offices and bathrooms.
As players progress, they discover alternative dimensions. These dimensions contain new loot, resources, and dangerous monsters.
Here’s the game’s official description:
“After a catastrophic containment breach, your workplace has become a cosmic battle zone: anomalous entities are on the loose, enemies from other dimensions are invading via portals, and an arcane military sect – known as The Order – is targeting personnel and entities indiscriminately, aiming to seize artifacts and put an end to the chaos. Containment procedures have failed and help isn’t on the way.”
The game challenges players to band together as scientists. They must plan their escape and make the underground complex their new home.
The game has been in early access for about a year. The full release is now available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. The availability on Game Pass and PS Plus Extra makes it easier for players to try the game.
“Stranded miles beneath the surface, it’s up to you and your fellow scientists to band together, plan your escape, and make this underground complex your new home – for now.”
The contemporary setting and Half-Life influences differentiate Abiotic Factor from other survival games.
