Battlefield 6 open beta on PC requires Secure Boot to launch. Here’s how to check if it’s enabled and how to turn it on before the beta starts.
The Battlefield 6 open beta kicks off August 9–10, with early access launching August 7. But before you can join the action on PC, there’s one important thing you need to do, enable Secure Boot on your system. Without it, you won’t even get past the start screen.
Battlefield 6 needs Secure Boot to fight cheaters
EA has confirmed that Battlefield 6 on Windows will require Secure Boot to be turned on. This is not just a box to tick — it’s a serious anti-cheat measure. Secure Boot works with Windows 10 and 11 to make sure only trusted software runs during system startup.
It’s part of EA’s larger plan to crack down on cheating through its new EA Javelin Anticheat system. This new tech aims to block common hacking tricks like memory injections, kernel-level cheats, rootkits, and hardware spoofing. Turning on Secure Boot helps block those threats before the game even launches.
If Secure Boot is off, the game won’t let you play. Instead, you’ll get a message asking you to switch it on first.

How to check if Secure Boot is already on
You can find out in under a minute:
- Press Windows Key + R
- Type msinfo32 and press Enter
- Look for two things:
- BIOS Mode should say UEFI
- Secure Boot State should say On
If it says “Off,” or “Unsupported,” you’ll either need to enable it or check if your PC supports it at all.

Other settings you need to check
Secure Boot relies on a couple of other system settings:
- TPM 2.0: Press Windows Key + R, type tpm.msc, and look at the status window.
- Windows drive format: It should be GPT, not MBR. Open Disk Management to check this. If it’s MBR, you’ll need to convert it with mbr2gpt.
How to enable Secure Boot step-by-step
If your PC supports Secure Boot but it’s off, here’s what to do:
- In the Windows search bar, type Change Advanced Startup Options
- Click Restart now under Advanced Startup
- Go to Advanced Options > UEFI Firmware Settings
- Your PC will reboot into BIOS
- In the BIOS, look for the Boot tab
- Set Secure Boot to Enabled
Depending on your motherboard, you might need to:
- Reset Secure Boot keys
- Set a BIOS admin password before making changes
Don’t wait till the last minute
Battlefield 6’s beta is around the corner, and you don’t want to waste time fiddling with BIOS settings on game day. Enable Secure Boot now, check your system, and you’ll be ready to jump in as soon as the servers go live.
