A well-known leaker has hinted that Death Stranding could soon make its way to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. While this remains unconfirmed, the possibility has sparked excitement among fans of Hideo Kojima’s genre-defying title.
Originally developed by Kojima Productions, Death Stranding debuted in 2019 for PlayStation 4 and PC, later arriving on PlayStation 5 in 2020. The game was a commercial hit, surpassing 20 million players globally, and earned widespread critical acclaim for its unique storytelling, atmospheric world, and unconventional gameplay.
Leaker Nash Weedle suggested that a Switch 2 port might be announced in the near future. Although Weedle stopped short of confirming its reveal during the most recent Nintendo Direct, he stated that the announcement could be coming soon.
Given the Switch 2’s expected performance leap over the original Switch, the idea of Death Stranding arriving on the platform is not far-fetched. Nintendo’s ecosystem has already welcomed demanding titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Borderlands 4, demonstrating its capacity to handle large-scale AAA releases. The game’s availability on Xbox Series X/S since late 2024 also shows Kojima Productions’ willingness to expand its audience.
The timing could be ideal. Earlier this year, the sequel Death Stranding 2: On the Beach launched to critical acclaim, holding a strong 90 average score on OpenCritic. While there’s no word yet on whether the sequel might also reach the Switch 2, expanding the original game’s reach could help build even more momentum for the franchise.
As for the series’ future, Hideo Kojima has teased ideas for a potential Death Stranding 3, though he has stated that he currently has no plans to direct another installment. Fans will have to wait and see whether more ports, sequels, or spin-offs are on the horizon.
