Bandai Namco rolled out patch 1.02.1 for Elden Ring Nightreign on August 12, 2025, delivering targeted bug fixes, technical improvements, and a notable boost to the “Storm Ruler” skill. The update follows the major 1.02 release, which introduced Duo Expeditions and other quality-of-life features, as the publisher works to maintain engagement in the multiplayer soulslike.
Released earlier this year, Elden Ring Nightreign blends cooperative play with From Software’s trademark punishing combat. It launched to generally positive reviews (81 on OpenCritic), with critics praising the combat but noting balancing issues for solo players. Riding the hype of the original Elden Ring, the title sold over 3.5 million copies in less than a week, though Steam’s concurrent player count has since dropped from over 313,000 to around 52,000.
Patch 1.02.1 Highlights
The headline change is a rework of “Storm Ruler”, including:
- Reduced charge time for the storm effect
- Faster projectile speed
- Higher uncharged attack power
- The update also fixes more than a dozen issues, from gameplay bugs to network stability. Key fixes include:
- Preventing item-use glitches that locked player actions
- Correcting relic and passive effect inconsistencies
- Fixing performance drops during certain boss fights
- Resolving PlayStation 5 UI/HUD disappearance and crash issues
Multiplayer stability also received attention, addressing problems with continuous spell use, passive effects, and relic interactions that could impact performance. Some text corrections for Brazilian Portuguese were included as well.
While this patch is strictly a maintenance update with no new content, data miners have hinted at a possible upcoming mode, “Deep of Night” — a ranked, endless dungeon challenge. FromSoftware has not confirmed it.
Players on all platforms must update to Version 1.02.1 for online play. Once the patch is installed, a game restart is required to apply changes.
