Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) may not come anytime sooner, according to reports. Reports, citing an insider, claimed that the game is staring at another delay from May to October 2026. This comes despite repeated assurances from Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick that Rockstar Games is confident about the game’s current launch date.
GTA 6 Hype at an All-Time High
The Grand Theft Auto franchise is one of the most iconic and best-selling series in gaming history. Fans have waited more than a decade since the release of GTA 5 in 2013, making anticipation for GTA 6 sky-high. Rockstar released the first official GTA 6 trailer in 2023, then went quiet for nearly two years before dropping the second trailer earlier this year. That reveal came shortly after Rockstar officially pushed the GTA 6 release date from Fall 2025 to May 26, 2026.
GTA 6 Delay Rumors Gain Traction
In a recent episode of Insider Gaming Weekly, journalist Tom Henderson — known for accurately leaking details about GTA, Call of Duty, and Battlefield — speculated that GTA 6 might not meet its May 2026 release. Henderson suggested that an October 2026 release window could be more realistic, noting that he has heard “rumblings” pointing to a delay. However, he stressed that the information is not yet confirmed and remains speculative.
Henderson’s prediction contrasts with recent claims by YouTuber Luke Stephens, who cited a trusted insider source within the publishing industry. Stephens stated that Rockstar remains “very confident” in hitting the May 2026 release date and that development is reportedly on track.
Rockstar’s Track Record with Delays
With around eight months to go before launch, Rockstar may not have finalized its decision on a potential delay. The studio is well-known for prioritizing quality and has delayed past titles to ensure a polished product. However, when Rockstar announces a specific release date rather than a vague launch window, it typically sticks to the schedule — something that Take-Two’s CEO reiterated in his recent investor call.
For now, GTA 6 fans remain divided: will the most anticipated game of the decade really drop in May 2026, or will Rockstar push it back once again to deliver a perfect experience?
