Yu Suzuki and Inin Games have confirmed that an enhanced edition of Shenmue III is on the way, set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo platforms. The original game was first revealed during Gamescom 2025.
According to a report of Polygon, Shenmue III Enhanced promises a range of modern upgrades, including improved visuals, performance boosts, and several quality-of-life features. Players can expect a 4K texture uplift with sharper details, faster load times, and smoother gameplay. The update also introduces high-quality upscaling, denser NPC crowds, a throwback “classic camera mode,” and optional tweaks such as stamina adjustments, automatic health recovery before battles, and a redesigned menu and UI system.
Progression has been streamlined with reduced money barriers, while new features like expanded QTE sequences and the ability to skip cutscenes or conversations make the adventure more accessible. Notably, players will be able to switch off these enhancements if they prefer the original experience.
Although no screenshots or gameplay footage have been shared yet, existing owners of the original release will gain access to an upgrade path. A release date has not been announced, and Nintendo’s inclusion as a platform leaves some uncertainty—whether the game will arrive on Switch, Switch 2, or both is still unclear. On PC, the enhanced edition will be available through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
For context, the Shenmue series began in 1999 on the Sega Dreamcast, following martial artist Ryo Hazuki as he seeks revenge for his father’s murder across 1980s Japan and China. The third chapter, released in 2019, continued Ryo’s journey in Guilin, China, alongside Ling Shenhua, who is searching for her missing father.
