Respawn Entertainment’s popular battle royale title, Apex Legends, is set to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on August 5, introducing the game to a new platform with significantly improved performance and graphics.
The upgraded hardware of the Switch 2 aims to address the technical limitations that plagued the original Switch version. Players previously reported lag, frame drops, and a generally subpar experience. Now, with enhanced specs, Nintendo fans can look forward to a smoother, more immersive gameplay experience—especially in fast-paced modes like Battle Royale and limited-time events.
The announcement was made during the July 31 Nintendo Direct, confirming that Apex Legends will be available on Switch 2 from August 5. While Respawn has yet to release detailed performance metrics, expectations are high given the hardware leap.
To celebrate the game’s arrival on the new console, players who log in before September 16—on either Switch model—can claim the exclusive Legendary Pathfinder skin.
Beyond the platform launch, Respawn continues to evolve Apex Legends. The studio recently introduced temporary matchmaking changes in Ranked mode to separate high-skill players—such as Masters and Predators—from lower-tier competitors, aiming for fairer and more competitive matches.
Additionally, the game’s upcoming Season 26 will debut a brand-new permanent mode called Wildcard. This 30-player mode, set on Kings Canyon, features faster movement options, a streamlined loot and inventory system, and a stronger focus on gunplay—promising a fresh twist on the classic Apex Legends experience. A developer deep dive video has also been released to provide players with more insights into this new mode.
With Apex Legends joining the growing list of third-party titles on the Switch 2, Nintendo is positioning its new console to compete more directly with current-generation platforms. Alongside its own hits like Kirby and the Forgotten Land, the Switch 2 will soon feature games like Madden NFL 26, Machik 2, and even exclusives like FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods.
For fans of Apex Legends, the move to Switch 2 marks a long-awaited improvement—and a chance to experience the game as it was meant to be played.
