YouTube is introducing stricter Community Guidelines to limit access to gaming videos that feature graphic violence and gambling-related content, including casino-style games and virtual item betting. Starting November 17, the platform will begin enforcing age restrictions on such content to align with industry safety standards.
According to YouTube’s support page, videos depicting realistic or prolonged violence—especially those focused on mass attacks or torture—will now be restricted to users aged 18 and above. Viewers who are underage or not signed in will be unable to access them.

The company clarified that not all violent gaming footage will be affected. The new policy primarily targets graphic or repetitive violent scenes involving human-like characters. Short, action-oriented sequences may remain unaffected, but compilations with sustained violence could face restrictions. YouTube will also consider the duration and frequency of violent moments when reviewing gaming compilations.

Alongside violence-related rules, YouTube is tightening its stance on gambling content, expanding its policy to include digital goods like video game skins, NFTs, and cosmetic items used in betting. Videos promoting unapproved gambling sites or apps will continue to be prohibited.
Additionally, social casino games, where players simulate gambling without real money, will now be age-restricted for viewers under 18.
YouTube stated that creators will have time to review their existing content before the new rules take effect. Videos uploaded prior to November 17 that violate these guidelines may be either removed or age-restricted but will not receive strikes. Creators are encouraged to edit or blur sensitive visuals to comply with the update, and those affected will receive email notifications with an option to appeal.
